Unit Name: Analytical Research Project

Description: This course will provide students with the knowledge and skill in independent planning and implementation of analytical works. Students will undertake mostly self-directed analytical projects, which are similar to work carried out in local industries. The course also provides an ideal platform for students to interact with industries and pursue analytical research and development works of interest to the industries. Students be encouraged to exercise independent learning and source information from the Library and the internet. The purpose of this course is to enable students to demonstrate the ability to plan and prioritize tasks involved in systematic analytical work. The students will be required to present a scientific report.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to understand the following: a. Design a research project, carefully selecting the appropriate analytical method and data analysis. b. Evaluate the progress of a research project by recording the logical and sequential steps completed within the specified time and according to specified objectives stated in the project proposal. c. Carry out fieldwork/research on the chosen topic within the deadline. d. Carry out a relevant literature search on the chosen project topic. e. Prepare and present an oral report in a seminar environment, to FNU staff and students,
