Unit Code: CHM605

Unit Name: Applied Mathematics & Quantum Chemistry

Description: This course consists of two components, both essential to proper understanding of advanced concepts in chemistry. The component, mathematics includes topics on functions, graphs, differential and integral calculus, vectors and matrices etc., and would prepare students to apply mathematics to chemistry particularly to physical chemistry, quantum mechanics and molecular modeling. With out delving into abstract mathematical regors application of these concepts with practical applications be emphasized. The second part of the course on quantum mechanics would present mathematical account of atomic and molecular structure. Topics on quantum mechanics include Schrodinger wave equation, postulates of quantum mechanics and their application to atomic and molecular structure and their spectroscopies.
