Unit Name: Fundamentals of Analytical Chemistry

Description: The purpose of this unit is to study the basic analytical techniques used in Chemistry.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to : a) Explain safe working methods in a chemical laboratory. b) Describe and perform techniques of separation and purification of both organic and inorganic samples. c) Demonstrate analytical techniques for both quantitative and qualitative analysis. d) Perform the following Titrimetry for quantitative analysis; Acid-Base titration; EDTA titration; Redox titration and Back titration. e) Perform the following Gravimetry for quantitative analysis; Precipitation and Volatilization gravimetry.

Prerequisite: Pass in Chemistry in Form 7 or Foundation Studies or equivalent

Prerequisite Sentence: Minimum Entry Requirement of the programme
