Unit Code: CFW442

Unit Name: Welding Technology 4

Description: The purpose of this unit is to enable the development of knowledge, understanding and required for Gas Tungsten Arc Welding process. Broad understanding of GTAW plant and the five requirements to produce sound weld. Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), also known as tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding, is an arc welding process that uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld. It mostly used for stainless steel welding.

Learning Target Outcomes: 1. Describe the process and principles of gas tungsten arc welding operation. 2. Describe the equipment associated with gas tungsten arc welding and the processes for installation, setup, and maintenance of equipment for gas tungsten arc welding. 3. State the shielding gas and electrodes for gas tungsten arc welding and Identify the welding applications for gas tungsten arc welding 4. Describe pre-weld preparations and post-weld for gas tungsten arc welding. 5. State the welder training and qualifications associated with gas tungsten arc welding and describe the welding safety associated with gas tungsten arc welding.
