Unit Name: Basic Sheetmetal work

Description: The purpose of this unit is to enable the development of knowledge and understanding required for the shaping and cutting of sheet metal. The calculation of spring back allowance and the operation of the machine contributes to the reshaping of metals.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, you should be able to Describe: 1. The principles of forming sheet metal and plate by bending 2. The meaning of ‘spring-back’ and how to compensate for it 3. The principles of bending in press tools 4. The principles of three-dimensional flow-forming 5. The techniques and equipment when flow-forming by hand 6. The techniques and tools used when spinning sheet metal 7. Making thin sheet-metal edges safe by wiring and folding
