Unit Name: Mechanical Joining Process

Description: The purpose of this unit is to enable the development of knowledge, understanding and skills required for joining metals using mechanical method such as screw fastening and riveting.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, you should be able to: 1. Describe the difference between temporary and permanent joints. 2. Describe the various types of screwed fastenings. 3. Describe what is meant by fitted bolts and where they are used. 4. Describe the various types of washers and where they are used. 5. Describe the various types of riveted joints. 6. Describe the need for and applications of POP ® rivets. 7. Describe what is meant by self-secured joints.
