Unit Name: Fitting and Machining Practice A1

Description: To enable the development of intermediate knowledge in skills required for competency in the basic uses of fitting and machining tools and workshop practice processes.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Describe the application of safety in a workshop environment, a job plan and finally, the machining of a single start vee thread and 2 start square threads. 2. Measure and mark out a fitting job using the appropriate equipment. 3. Exercise the cutting and shaping material using the correct hand tools, cutting internal and external screw threads using taps and dies, grinding a lathe cutting tool and carrying out dressing of grinding wheel, and finally carrying out basic lathe operations.
