Unit Name: Construction Technology

Description: The construction sector is a major part of the civil engineering and building industries. Construction projects range in size from the small (such as the construction of a swimming pool or a subdivision cul de sac) to the very large (such as the construction of a hydroelectric power scheme, a freeway system or a mine). Typically, civil engineering projects require a good grasp of the interaction between machinery and materials. Hence you as a technologist will learn to understand the different machinery used on site, should have through knowledge of site activities and earth works Engineering technologist also need to manage competing demands of time, cost and quality. Therefore, you should be familiar with construction equipment and must be able to plan and direct constructions works efficiently and understand the construction work as lanned. This course includes a minimum of two field visits where you will have the opportunity to witness theory in practice. In addition, you will learn standards procedures of writing site reports.
