Unit Code: BIO925

Unit Name: Animal Behaviour

Description: This course will cover discrete sensory inputs that stimulate both simple and complex behaviour in animals. Many types of behaviour are learned by experience during animal interactions within its own species and with other species.

Learning Target Outcomes: At the end of this unit students will be able to: 1. Demonstrate extensive detail and critical knowledge of discrete sensory inputs that stimulate both simple and complex behaviour. 2. Identity, conceptualize and define specific links between experience and behaviour. 3. Critically review the contribution of genetic makeup and environment to the development of behaviours. 4. Apply critical analysis in the processes of selection for individual survival and reproductive success to explain behaviours in animals. 5. Use a range of advanced techniques to analyse individual fitness which can account for the evolution of altruistic and social behaviours.
