Unit Name: Island Biogeography

Description: The unit will provide an introduction to the study of island biogeography with an emphasis on Pacific systems.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Demonstrate knowledge of island formation, types and environments. 2. Comprehensively understand how islands are important biodiversity hotspots. 3. Understand the macroecological factors that determine the composition of island biotas. 4. Comprehensively understand island evolutionary processes. 5. Demonstrate knowledge of island theory and its relation to biodiversity conservation. 6. Comprehensively understand the major patterns and processes of island biogeography in Fiji.

Prerequisite: Minimum GPA of 3.0 in Bachelor’s Degree in Biology as a major subject or work experience in a related area.
