Unit Name: Biodiversity and Conservation Biology

Description: This course will help students to have overview of plant and animal diversity and various process undertaken to conserve them.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Demonstrate a critical understanding of the severity of biodiversity crises due to various human activities. 2. Critically identify and review threatened, endangered and extinct species. 3. Use a range of fundamental skills to assess the needs of species and help restore damaged or destroyed habitats. 4. Determine and rank the causes of declining biological diversity. 5. Demonstrate detailed knowledge and understanding of the importance of conservation biology and compare in-situ and ex-situ conservation measures. 6. Use skills and techniques to determine the benefits and shortcomings of endangered species laws/acts and the convention on international trade in endangered species of wild flora and fauna.

Prerequisite: Minimum GPA of 3.0 in Bachelor’s Degree in Biology as a major subject or work experience in a related area.
