Unit Name: Foundation Biology II

Description: The purpose of this course is to provide a basic knowledge on biology. This course covers major groups of protozoans and invertebrates.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Understand the characteristics, adaptations and ecological success of the major groups of protozoans. 2. Understand the characteristics and adaptations of the phylum Porifera. 3. Understand the significance of diploblastic condition, cell specialization and polymorphism in Cnidarians. 4. Understand the acoelomate, pseudocoelomate and coelomate conditions in triploblastic animals. 5. Understand the relationship between structural complexity and modes of life in acoelomates, such as Class Tubellaria, Class Trematoda and Class Cestoda. 6. Understand the anatomy and ecological importance of pseudocoelomates, such as Class Nematodes. 7. Understand the two groups of coelomates, the invertebrates and the vertebrates 8. Understand the concepts of human evolution from primates to cultural evolution 9. Understand the effect man has on the ecosystem
