Unit Name: Preliminary Biology II

Description: The purpose of this course is to provide basic knowledge of biology. This course provides pupils to demonstrate an understanding of the basic concepts of biology.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Understand the relationship between organisms and their environment. 2. Knowledge of the basic facts, principle and theories in the development of the major concepts in biology. 3. Able to understand the intake of raw material in plants, the structures involved with their transport internally and their subsequent photosynthesis use. 4. Identify factors that regulate support and movements in living organisms. 5. Able to discuss the mode of gas exchange in living organisms. 6. Able to understand the sensory system in living organisms. 7. Able to discuss how different organisms reproduce, .i.e. either by sexual or asexual reproduction. 8. Able to grasps the background of genetics and its applications. 9. Understand the concept of natural selection and evolution.

Prerequisite: Form 5 Biology or equivalent

Prerequisite Sentence: Minimum Entry Requirement of the programme
