Unit Name: Automotive Science & Calculation

Description: This is a first step course and is designed to introduce you to the basics of the Automotive Calculations. It will provide you with some of the theory and calculations skills. It is designed to inspire you to want to learn more about the subject and provide you with a basis for undertaking a skills course at level IV or higher. The unit is designed to support theoretical knowledge in understanding science and calculations and provide a clearer and better understanding of vehicle related calculations. You will be expected to complete this unit in relevant topics in Arithmetic, Algebra and graph, Statistics, Geometry, Forces, Basic mechanics, frictions, velocity, acceleration and speed.

Learning Target Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Calculate lengths in the metric system and areas and volumes of geometric forms. 2. Apply mathematical and statistical methods to vehicle-related tasks. 3. Apply fundamental algebraic laws and trigonometric ratios to solve vehicle related tasks. 4. Apply scientific principles related to heat, force and machines to solve vehicle related tasks. 5. Carry out data collection and manipulation in vehicle-related areas such as speed, acceleration and power.
