Unit Name: Basic Automotive Calculations

Description: This course offers a variety of assessment criteria which enhance the ability of the individuals to understand calculation aspects of Automotive Engineering.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: i. Use algebraic techniques to solve problems involving formulae and equations relevant to engineering. ii. Apply Pythagoras\' theorem to solve problems. iii. Calculate forces, moments, torque, power, energy and gear ratios. iv. Describe the relationship between displacement, stroke, bore and compression ratio. v. Calculate engine capacity.

Prerequisite: Minimum Entry Requirements of the programme

Prerequisite Sentence: Year 11 Pass
