Unit Name: Sheep and Goat Production

Description: The course provides knowledge and understanding of the sheep and goat industries, including the rearing systems, feed management, housing and health care. Topics discussed in the course include the history of the domestication of sheep and goats, global statistics on sheep and goat production. The common diseases affecting sheep and goats in Fiji and their control measures are reviewed

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1.2.1 Identify and compare the breeds of sheep and goats that are reared in the Pacific region 1.2.2 Describe the different rearing systems under which sheep and goats are produced 1.2.3 Evaluate the management techniques that are applied to the production of sheep and goats 1.2.4 Describe the feed management of sheep and goats. 1.2.5 Examine the common diseases of sheep and goats in the Pacific region and how they can be controlled.
