Unit Name: Studio Crafts

Description: This unit aims to engage Student teachers to examine and apply concepts to studio craft which has 3 main components. The first is paper-craft where students learn to recycle , reuse all types of paper and make mosaic, montage, origami and paper Mache. The second Making of jewellery, collage and bottle craft, the 3rd componant deals with sea shells and coconut shell consturction and The final component is weaving which covers a very wide area using different materials to create mobiles and stabiles. This course will also offer the necessary knowledge and skills in depth to enable students to teach Art and Craft effectively in schools. It will also expose them to the aesthetic values of crafts as they appreciate the skills involved. Traditional craft of weaving which is still practiced today in some parts of Fiji is a component of this course. The revival of crafts is pertinent as their uses are still significant and students should be taught these skills during training. They in turn should assist schools by encouraging the restoration of this dying art.
