Unit Code: ART601

Unit Name: Painting

Description: To teach painting confidently, one has to develop an appreciation for the arts. How one paint is a matter of personality. Students will be allowed to observe and analyse paintings but should eventually find their own way to express their creativity through painting. This can only be accomplished through a guided experience and intensive study of famous paintings. From this experience, it is also hoped that students will be motivated to explore their potential in paintings. This course is the advanced phase of painting. Upon application of the basics acquired in painting, this course introduces students to gouache, water, acrylic and oil paintings. Students will be expected to acquire skills in selecting different media and handling appropriate equipment such as palette, knives and brushes. Understanding colour combinations and mixing the required colours will be a vital component of this course. Colour, harmony, rhythm, balance, composition, perspective and painting techniques will receive special attention.
