Unit Name: Helicopters

Description: This module aims to provide the student with thorough knowledge and skills relevant to helicopter aerodynamics, structures, controls, and systems.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to understand the following: 1. Describe the aerodynamic characteristics of helicopters. 2. Describe design methods used to enhance helicopter dynamic stability. 3. Describe the construction and operation, and demonstrate maintenance requirements of helicopter mechanical systems. 4. Describe the construction and operation of cyclic and collective pitch control systems and anti-torque control systems, and demonstrate maintenance procedures. 5. Identify features, and describe the operating principles of helicopter landing gear, fuel, and auxiliary systems. 6. Describe the handling and safety precautions in storing, maintaining and servicing helicopters
