Unit Name: Radio Principles 3

Description: This module is to familiarize the student with Single Sideband Suppressed Carrier and Frequency Modulation radio transmissions. It is also intended to introduce the student to HF, VHF UHF and SATCOM radio transceivers.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to; a) Describe the principles of Single Sideband Suppressed Carrier (SSBSC) modulation and communications b) Describe the construction, operation, and characteristics of SSBSC communication receivers. c) Describe the construction, operation, and characteristics of the SSBSC Transmitter. d) Describe principles of UHF, VHF, HF and satellite (SATCOM) communications and describe the operation of an aircraft audio integrating system, including aircraft transceivers. e) Describe construction, operation, and characteristics of aircraft HF, VHF, UHF and SATCOM transceiver systems. f) Describe the function, characteristics, installation and maintenance of the emergency locator transmitter g) Describe the principles of FM modulation and communications. h) Describe the construction, operation, and characteristics of FM communication receivers. i) Describe the construction, operation, and characteristics of FM transmitters. j) Describe the construction, operation, and characteristics of Cockpit Voice Recorder systems.
