Unit Name: Radio Principles 2

Description: This module is to familiarise the student with basic radio principles. It is a module that introduces concepts and applications only. This module is a prerequisite for the more in-depth modules.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to; a) Describe electromagnetic radiation, propagation and the factors affecting them. b) Describe the characteristics and uses of transmission lines. c) Describe the characteristics and uses of antennas. d) Describe noise and interference. e) Describe the operation of laser and other communication optical devices. f) Describe optical theory concerning fibre optics and describe various aspects of optical fibre data transmission g) Describe the characteristics and uses of delay lines. h) Describe the behaviour of common electronic components at radio frequencies.
