Unit Name: AC Instrument Systems 1

Description: This module introduces the student to the fundamental concepts of instrumentation with a sound understanding of the basic aircraft instruments and pitot-static systems.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to; a) Describe the requirements of aircraft instruments, their groupings, and panel layout. b) List and define the relevant terms and units of measurement associated with aircraft attitude and performance and their applicable conversions. c) Identify the composition of the atmosphere. d) Describe the construction, operation and function of pressure measuring devices and direct reading gauges. e) Describe the construction of a typical pitot-static system and components which constitute it. f) Describe the construction and operating principles of sensitive Altimeters. g) Explain the construction and operation of vertical speed indicators. h) Explain the construction and operation of airspeed indicators. i) Explain miscellaneous altitude systems. j) Explain the operation of Air Data Computer systems and Servo Altimeters.
