Unit Name: Introduction to Aviation and OHS

Description: The purpose of this module is to introduce the students to the general facets of the aviation industry and familiarise them with the basic construction of aircraft, basic theory of flight, aircraft propulsion systems and flight control systems. This module also provides students with an overview of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements associated with the aircraft engineering environment.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Explain their relevant trade course structure, content and describe airworthiness requirements relevant to the aviation industry. 2. Explain the purpose of the major assemblies of an aircraft. 3. Observe occupational health and safety regulations. 4. Apply procedures for the identification and reporting of workplace hazards. 5. Describe the safety precautions associated with aircraft maintenance operations. 6. Apply basic first aid procedures (DRABC). 7. Select appropriate personal protective equipment as required by regulatory and enterprise procedures. 8. Describe the correct use of emergency equipment in compliance with regulatory or enterprise procedures.

Prerequisite: A pass in FSLC with English, Mathematics, Physics and one other Science or Technology subject
