Unit Name: Farm Environment & Agroecosystems

Description: To provide the students with the basic knowledge, concepts and principles of environmental science and management systems to improve farm resource management and productivity. Students will learn ecosystem functions and relationships, and environmental processes: meteorological, ecological, geological, and biological factors, landscape development, biodiversity management, agri-energy resources, and agri-waste management system.

Learning Target Outcomes: 1. Apply knowledge of mathematics, natural science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization. 2. Identifies the major factors that have impacts on the sustainability practice of the agricultural engineering profession or areas of concern. 3. Communicate effectively on well-defined engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large. 4. Identifies operational hazards and sets out relevant steps to be taken to lower the risk to public health and safety. 5. Demonstrate knowledge of the societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to agricultural engineering practice.
