Unit Name: Introduction to Post-Harvest System

Description: This unit will enable students to understand, develop knowledge and skills on post-harvest system and practices. Identify methods of harvesting, handlings, transportation, processing, storage and packing of various agricultural crops, vegetables, cereals, grains and fruits. Students as final requirement will do a field study on a local agricultural commodity (dalo, cassava and etc.) and submit report based on the present scenario in terms of its post-harvesting practices.

Learning Target Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Apply knowledge and techniques about post-harvesting engineering procedures and practices. 2. Identify and analyse well-defined engineering problems about post-harvesting engineering activities in Fiji. 3. Identifies information requirements and obtains information from the relevant industry literature about post-harvest processes with factual and theoretical concepts. 4. Apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering tools for post-harvest. 5. Contributes constructively to team decision making, earns the trust and confidence of other team members.
