Unit Name: Farm Power, Renewable Energy and Agricultural Process Engineering

Description: This course will provide a theoretical and practical understanding on the role farm power, renewable energy and agricultural process engineering. Practical understanding on different type of power i.e. human, animal, mechanical and electrical use in farm and its role in agricultural production. Explaining of different type renewable energy use in agriculture such as wind solar bio mass and bio gas energy and their applications in Fiji. Theoretical and practical understanding on agricultural crop processing harvesting, threshing, cleaning, drying, grading, sorting, pretreatments, storing, value adding and packaging. Identifying of post-harvest handling of crops, drying techniques and different agricultural crop storage conditions such as control atmosphere, modified atmosphere and cold storage. The students will understand technology in agricultural crop processing and machineries.
