Unit Code: ACR498

Unit Name: Refrigeration Principles

Description: This unit aims to enable the development of elementary knowledge of the refrigeration cycle and understand the internal processes occurring throughout the refrigeration system. It also cooperates with the ability to fabricate copper tubing fittings to specification.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, you should be able to: 1. Explain the operation of the vapour compression refrigeration cycle. 2. Establish the state of the refrigerant in an operating vapour compression system. 3. Explain Refrigerants and their function in a refrigeration system. 4. Differentiate between different types of refrigerants and their harmful effects on the environment. 5. Describe the different types of compressors and pumps as used in Refrigeration and Air conditioning systems. 6. Bend copper tubing to specification. 7. Construct mechanical and brazed joints in refrigerant tubing that meets specification. 8. Replace or repair components in refrigeration system piping to specification. 9. Fit and remove service gauges to operating refrigeration systems.
