Programme Name Refresher Course for Basic Safety Training
Programme Description
This course covers the mandatory training requirements for the issue of a certificate of Refresher for Basic Safety Training as set out in Regulation VI/1 Section A-VI/1 Para 3, Table A-VI/1-1, Table A VI/1-2, Table A-VI/1-3 and Table A-VI/1-4 of the STCW 1978 Convention as amended.
Refresher Basic Safety Training Course for the seafarers who hold STCW Basic Safety Training Certificate issued by MSAF are no longer valid.
The course will enable seafarers to re validate their basic safety certificate in accordance with the STCW 1978 Convention as amended as per Section A-VI-1, Section A-VI/1 paragraph 3 
The convention requires that certificate to be revalidated every five years, and to provide evidence of having maintained the required standard of competence to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities listed in column 1 of tables A-VI/1-1, A-VI/1-2, A-VI/1-3 and A-VI/1-4 of the Convention.

Note: Includes Practical Sessions in Pool and Fire Simulator at Fiji Naval Base, Togalevu
Minimum Requirement
•	Applicant must be of at least 18 years of age 
•	Must provide valid Presea Training (Basic Safety training) Certificate
•	If the Pre-Sea Training (4 basic short courses) certificates are expired, then the applicant must either; 
­	 -  Have accumulated approved sea going service on the preceding five years of not less than 12 months; OR 
­	 - Have accumulated approved sea going service on the preceding six months of not less than 3 months. 
•	Must be medically fit enough to participate in exercises.
