The Postgraduate Diploma in TESL qualification is designed to meet knowledge and skills required by professions in the field of teaching, such as higher education institutions, secondary and primary schools and technical and vocational education. It equips students with content knowledge and pedagogical skills in teaching the four macro language skills of – listening, speaking, reading and writing. For this purpose, the PGD comprises specifically designed courses in linguistics, sociolinguistics and language education, as well as exposing and preparing students in methods of research in linguistics, applied linguistics and language teaching and learning. The postgraduate diploma is a pathway to pursuing a Master’s Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language, which further leads to a Doctorate Degree in TESL.
a)The minimum entry requirement for admission to the Postgraduate Diploma shall be the completion of a Bachelor’s degree for Bachelor of Arts (Language & Literature) or Bachelor in Media & Journalism or Bachelor of Education (Secondary) with Majors in English programme in the subject with a minimum GPA of 3.0, or equivalent. b)Mature students will be assessed after an evaluation of prior learning/experience (APL) on a case by case basis.
