Programme Description
The competencies in this a module deals with the knowledge and skills required to assist trade persons in the  welding and fabrication  industry. The module utilises competency based approaches to measure trainee outcomes.This course is ideal for participants who wish to pursue a career in fabrication and welding.This course will cover the basics of  MIG (metal inert gas) and MMA (manual metal arc) welding processes, sheet metal fabrication, marking out, calculation  and the drawing process.  The emphasis is on learning by doing, as well as acquiring the knowledge and understanding to assist the participants in this field.The course is delivered through practical demonstrations, realistic working tasks and learning to develop underpinning knowledge The competencies  encompassed in this module is equivalent to Level 3 of the National  Qualification for Welding and Fabrication.
Course Learnings
Understand the basic nature of work in the welding and fabrication industry
Demonstrate knowledge of occupational health and safety practices in the welding industry
Identify, select and use workshop hand and power tools   
Distinguish and draw various types of drawing in orthographic projection,
Demonstrate knowledge of basic arithmetic   
Understand common SI Units, prefixes and mathematical number notations 
Carry out drilling operations,   
Demonstrate knowledge of engineering materials  
Demonstrate setting up of oxy acetylene equipment
Demonstrate setting up of arc welding processes (MMAW),
