Course Name | Arc Welding Technology 2 |
---|---|
Department | Department of Automotive and Mechanical |
Programme Description | The competencies covered in this module deals with the knowledge and skills required to assist trade persons in the welding and fabrication industry. The module utilises competency based approaches to measure trainee outcomes. Arc welding is one of several fusion processes for joining metals and this module is intended to specialize in advanced arc welding skills. The module addresses competencies for all position welding of butt and fillet joints with shielded metal arc using various mild steel electrodes an introduction to stainless electrodes on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The competencies encompassed in this module is equivalent to Level 4 of the National Qualification for Welding and Fabrication. |
Course Learnings | Outline the principle of operation for MMAW and personal safety requirements and discuss the safe operation of the process, Identify electrodes using the electrode classification system and relate the electrode types to specific industrial applications and uses, Demonstrate horizontal, vertical and overhead fillet welds to the standard specified. |
