Programme Description

The module  provides the learner with a thorough understanding of the function and purpose of a refrigerant, the various desirable and ideal properties of a refrigerant and the various types of refrigerants available. The safety aspects, methods of reclaiming refrigerants, evacuation, leak detection and an understanding of system contamination are also discussed. Participants will also learn of the effects of Ozone depleting substances on the Ozone layer and its effects on ozone depletion and the environment. The competencies  encompassed in this module is equivalent to Level 4 National Qualification for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Trade.

Course Learnings

Identify various types of refrigeration compressors and explain their function, basic operation, construction and applications, 
Understand the basic operation, construction and applications of condensers and liquid receivers, 
Understand the main function, types, operation, construction, and application of evaporators used in a refrigeration system, 
Identify the function, types, basic operating principles, construction and application of liquid refrigerant flow controls,  
Understand the basic concept of temperature difference in regards to condensers, evaporators, relative humidity and ambient conditions and their basic effect on the operation of a refrigeration system
