Course Name | Fundamentals of Environmental Auditing |
---|---|
Department | Department of National Productivity and Industry Innovation |
Programme Description | This course offers the basic knowledge on how to conduct an environmental audit. An environmental audit is a means by which an organisation can assess the environmental impacts of their operations. At its core is the measurement and evaluation of all inputs to and outputs from a production or operational process. Without this information, any other attempt at environmental improvement is likely to be ineffective; only when impacts are identified and measured can a company determine what areas to focus on, and what results it is getting for its measures. For this reason an environmental audit will generally provide a starting point for any other environmental measures. An audit can also provide a valuable tool for companies both in performance management and in planning. It can be an effective risk management tool for assessing compliance with environmental legislation and can also be used to identify areas for improvements and efficiencies. |
Course Learnings | Demonstrate an understanding of environmental audits and different audit approaches , Explain the linkages between an organisations environmental performance to the requirements of Fijis Environmental Legislations , Identify the supplementary and complementary legislations, processes, documents, records and practices that are part of an organisations environmental aspects , Demonstrate ability to plan, conduct, report and follow- up internal environmental audits as per legal, moral, and ethical requirements , Design environmental audit criteria , Apply the process of performing an environmental audit as per agreed and defined criteria |
