Eighteen-year-old Alanieta Rasaqiwa Vodo was full of excitement as she successfully enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts (Language and Literature) at the Fiji National University’s (FNU) Natabua Campus.

The former Lelean Memorial School student said becoming a teacher has always been her childhood dream and she was thrilled to be pursuing her educational aspirations at FNU.

Vodo will study as a private student and is grateful to her maternal uncle for funding her tertiary education.

“I have always wanted to study at FNU. They have a good reputation for training teachers. The practical attachment will ensure I’m work-ready after graduation,” said Vodo.

“I’m thankful to my uncle who has agreed to fund my education. It really means a lot to me.”

“Since no one in my family had previously experienced the university application process, we were a bit overwhelmed. Luckily, the FNU staff made it easier for us. The one-stop-shop set-up at FNU Natabua Campus ensured our application process was completed without any hiccups.”

“I travelled from Rakiraki to Lautoka with all my documents and it was a stress-free experience. I am so thankful to the staff who helped me to navigate the academic environment and make a sound decision in pursuit of my education and career goals,” she said.

The Rakiraki lass looks forward to more new experiences as she undertakes tertiary studies at FNU.

“I have realised that education is a ladder to my ultimate career goals. A career will allow me to better the world and most importantly, the communities we come from,” she added.

Vodo, a sports fanatic, is looking forward to participating in the inter-campus sports tournament.

“I am looking forward to enjoying my time at Natabua Campus while studying and participate in events organised at the university. This will provide me with a perfect opportunity to engage with new people and make fantastic friends,” stated the new student.

Vodo’s message to prospective students is to visit their nearest FNU campus for enquiries, applications, and enrollment.

“It is not too late to get academic counselling. And don’t be afraid to ask questions. There is no such thing as a lousy question.  As freshers from secondary school, we are always reluctant to ask questions to university academics but trust me, the friendly FNU staff are well equipped to provide us with all the answers to our queries,” she said confidently.

Vodo is ready to begin her studies in the Bachelor of Arts (Language and Literature) programme and develop advanced critical reading and thinking skills to prepare for careers in teaching, professional writing, and the public and sector and corporate world.

Students interested in the above or other FNU programmes can visit our Enrolment Booth at MHCC in Suva or a campus near you for enquiries. Prospective students can also visit our website on www.fnu.ac.fj for programme information and entry requirements.
