Not only do teachers guide students in academics or extracurricular activities, but they are also responsible for shaping a child’s future. One such example is A.D. Patel College teacher Vishwa Achari, who brought his former student Mosese Poe to enrol at the Fiji National University’s (FNU) Enrolment Roadshow at the Ba Bus Stand during the weekend.

The 45-year-old Agriculture teacher from Namasau, Ba encouraged Poe to enrol in the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) (Physical Education and Art & Craft) to pursue a career in his field of interest.

“While he was studying at A.D. Patel, he played football for the school team. As a teacher, even when our students have finished school, we look after them and ensure they pursue further studies,” Achari said.

“It was a milestone achievement for Poe to score 301/400 in his Year 13 exams and he has certainly made us and his parents proud.”

“FNU has made tertiary education more accessible and flexible to students. I am also a former student of FNU, and I know how the University has a programme for everyone.”

Residing in Yaloku, Yakete in Ba, 18-year-old Poe said he is grateful to his high school teacher Achari for assisting him throughout his studies.

Originally from Kadavu, Poe shared that he had to overcome many struggles in search of a better life.

“I attended A.D Patel College, and I did not think that I would make it this far, I went through a lot of struggles, but in the end, I passed my Year 13 with flying colours.”

“Back at home, I did not have electricity to study, and I had to study late at night using solar lights. Sometimes even my parents’ phone as a torch to study,” the shy Poe said.

“I have chosen FNU to further my interest in sports through teaching and I would like to teach students what I love while learning from them at the same time.”

The FNU Roadshow teams will be at Shop N Save in Navua and at the Nausori Bus Stand from today until Friday [30 January – 3 February 2023] from 9AM to 3PM. The team will assist students with their applications, entry requirements and academic assistance.

For ease in admission and registration, FNU also has dedicated Enrolment Centres to serve new and continuing students at the Koronivia, Nasinu, Derrick, Ba, Natabua, Namaka and Labasa campuses. Students can visit these campuses to complete their application process.
