Students graduate after completing the Basic Operations in a Call Centre course at FNU

Twenty students graduated from the Fiji National University’s (FNU), College of Business, Hospitality, and Tourism Studies’ (CBHTS) Basic Operations in a Call Centre (Level 3) course.

Graduate James Rabalolo, said that the course has given him the required knowledge and skills to be able to work as a Customer Interaction Agent.

“I feel great. It has been an amazing experience for me, and I am happy to be one of the top students in the course,” he said.

“Customer service comes naturally to all Fijians, and it is in our genes. BPO is a big thing for Fiji and a very good career path for others to explore and this course will prepare you for the job.”

Another graduate, Patsy Yogeeta was one of the oldest students in the course, and she has encouraged other females to join the course.

“It is a very challenging course, but very educational for the students; we have learnt a lot of new things which we can use in our lives and at work,” she said.

The Basic Operations in a Call Centre course was designed by FNU in close consultation with the BPO Council. The certificate programme addresses the skills required by the industry.

FNU’s Dean of the College of Business Hospitality and Tourism Studies, Professor Arun Elias said the course was growing in demand and one which provides the right path to secure employment.

“We are extremely proud to have produced graduates from the course as majority of them have secured jobs in reputable outsourcing companies in the country,” Professor Elias said.

The course provides immediate employment for graduates. As a result of this course, the standard of Customer service and call centre training provided for people in Fiji will be improved.

Outsource Fiji Executive Director, Sagufta Janif, who was the Chief Guest at the graduation said the sector has created a lot of job opportunities for Fijians, and many can pursue this field to progress in life.

“We started with the programme in January this year and a lot of interest from students has been shown towards the programme. This is an important sector during and after COVID-19 and it is expanding and will continue to grow further in the future,” Janif said.

“We are also proud to partner with FNU in offering and delivering the course for the students. We will continue to support the University in any way possible in ensuring the course continues to prepare our people to excel and for the opportunities which await them in the future. I congratulate all the students who have graduated and wish them all the best for your future.”
