Hailing from the small town of Tavua in Western Fiji, Ravitesh Ramendra Singh knew the important role of the transportation industry in providing mobility to people and goods and services.

Singh knew that having an efficient and sustainable fleet of vehicles depended on transport management specialists who also worked with high regard for environmental preservation.

To achieve his ambition, Singh enrolled at the Fiji National University’s (FNU), College of Engineering, Science and Technology (CEST) in a technical and vocational education and training (TVET) course.

Singh first enrolled in the Trade Diploma in Road Transport Management and Technology in 2017 and further pursued a Diploma in Transport Management and Technology (Roads) in 2020.

“I was excited to begin studies at FNU after completing my pre-tertiary education at Tavua Primary School and Tavua College,” Singh said.

“I chose FNU because they offer practical learning and teaching and this has been one of the best decisions I’ve made.”

“I had a positive and enriching student experience at FNU as the lecturers were skilled and willing to provide us with additional support that added to our skills and knowledge.”

“I also wanted to undertake this course to learn how to effectively apply road transport management and maintenance without causing too much harm on the environment.”

During his studies, Singh undertook industrial attachment at Dayals Quarries Pte Ltd in 2018 and 2020.

He successfully graduated with his Trade Diploma in August last year and received his Diploma qualifications by December in the same year.

“FNU has not only provided my fellow graduates and I with better career opportunities but has also made us aspire to make a difference in our community,” Singh shared.

“FNU has laid the foundation for people like me to achieve and live our dreams and provided a great environment for our personal and academic development.”

Singh is currently undergoing Professional Vehicle Examiners and Inspectors course at CEST and hopes to open his vehicle examination centre in Tavua one day.
