The Fiji National University (FNU) extends its sincere congratulations to Dr. Giulio Masasso Tu’ikolongahau Paunga on his appointment as the first Vice-Chancellor of Tonga National University (TNU).

Dr. Paunga’s appointment, effective from 06 January 2025, stands as a testament to his exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing higher education in Tonga. His appointment coincides with the second anniversary of TNU’s founding, marking an exciting new chapter for the university as it continues to grow and contribute to the educational development of the Pacific community.
As the first Tongan national to hold the position of Vice-Chancellor, Fiji National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba says Dr. Paunga’s leadership will serve as an inspiration to future generations of scholars, educators, and professionals both within Tonga and beyond.
“His appointment underscores the importance of local leadership in shaping the future of education in the Pacific and serves as a powerful reminder of the critical role visionaries play in this growth,” Professor Nabobo-Baba said.
