The Fiji National University (FNU) and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) celebrated a milestone achievement today with the graduation of the first cohort of the International Introductory Certificate in Logistics and Transport programme, offered through the university’s Pacific Centre for Maritime Studies (PCMS).
The programme, franchised by the prestigious CILT, a UK-registered global leader in logistics and supply chain management, fills a critical gap in Fiji’s educational landscape.
For the first time, a certified qualification in this field is now available from a local institution. This new qualification will equip individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in various logistics and transport roles and significantly enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the country’s supply chain network.
British High Commissioner to Fiji, Dr Brian Jones who was the chief guest at the event, addressed the graduates, highlighting the significance of their chosen field.
“With your introductory certificate and CILT accreditation, you join a community responsible for the movement of essential goods around the world. The way you perform your duties directly impacts the lives of people in Fiji and in the Pacific,” said Dr Jones.
“Here in the Pacific, you will see the supply chain stretched to their limits. You will have the ideas and the experience that will shape the global maritime environment. So, get involved, become part of that community, and engage in learning and development.”
In congratulating the graduates, the Director of PCMS, Captain Tevita Robanakadavu commended them for their hard work and dedication.
“We are incredibly proud to witness the graduation of our first cohort from this esteemed programme. The second cohort is already underway, and we eagerly anticipate offering more of this programme again soon,” added Captain Robanakadavu.
Karalaini Gukibau Sekikorolevu, one of only two women to graduate from the first cohort says she is grateful for the qualification that will greatly assist her in her work.
“I am incredibly proud to be part of this pioneering cohort. This programme has equipped me with valuable knowledge and skills that will significantly benefit my work. I am excited to continue learning and growing in the next stage of the programme,” said Sekikorolevu.
The inaugural cohort comprised eight graduates working in various logistics, operations, and transport sectors in Fiji.
This CILT programme positions FNU at the forefront of logistics education in Fiji.
