Nand reaches new heights through her education at FNU

Press Release Posted On: July 8, 2021

Pritish Devi Nand is a Master of Commerce in Accounting student at FNU.

For Pritish Devi Nand, joining the Fiji National University’s (FNU) College Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies (CBHTS) to study a Bachelor of Accounting in 2011 was the best decision of her life.

“FNU’s wide range of programmes brings so much confidence as a student since the qualification is widely recognised within and outside of Fiji. I have always been proud to be associated with the institution,” stated Nand.

One of the major highlights of her early career was securing employment at FNU’s Secretariat Office soon after graduating in 2014. She credits the institution for preparing her for the ‘real-world’.

“I was lucky enough to be employed by the same institution where I attained my tertiary qualification. I consider FNU as my second home as being part of FNU as an employee boosted my confidence,” said Nand.

Fast-forward to a decade later, Nand has completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting and is pursuing her Masters of Commerce in Accounting at FNU. Today, she works in the Human Resource Department at the Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts.

“Now I am also able to assist teachers in their career development. I have organised numerous workshops in collaboration with FNU, based on programme requirements and development for our teachers.”

The 29-year-old firmly believes her education has complemented her career progression and uses this to inspire others around her.

“Along with my full-time job, my knowledge in Commerce has also enabled me to handle the financials of our family business that my husband operates.”

While reflecting on her earlier days, Nand shared she did not know where she would end after completing her secondary school. She immensely credits her late father, who had left his Fiji National Provident Fund savings for her daughter’s higher education.

“Not having my Father physically present during my education journey was the most difficult phase of my life. When I first graduated, I yearned for my father’s presence. This painful experience always motivated me to work even harder.”

“No matter the challenges you face in your life, do not get diverted from your goal,” emphasised Nand, who is eagerly counting on the days to complete her Master’s programme.
