Sumeet Naidu graduated from FNU’s College of Engineering, Science and Technology (CEST) this week.

Working in a garage in Papatoetoe, New Zealand has been the perfect career start for Sumeet Naidu, who now aims to become a successful entrepreneur. Kumar graduated with a Certificate IV in Automotive Body Works from the Fiji National University (FNU) this week.

Ambitious about a career in the automotive field, he travelled abroad to upskill himself at his uncle’s garage in NZ before returning home to obtain a qualification in the field.

“Although I had gained experience in installing vehicle parts and accessories, adjusting vehicle components according to specifications or even some repair works, I had always wanted to have a certification,” mentioned Naidu.

While at FNU, Naidu enjoyed the practical elements of the course work. He further mentioned that the Certificate IV in Automotive Body Works programme offered at FNU’s College of Engineering, Science and Technology (CEST), has set him up with industry-relevant skills that employers are looking for, and has also given him the confidence that he could do it in the real world.

“The lecturers and tutors have such valuable insights to offer, and I have realised that the more effort you put into the course, the more you will get out of it,” he said.

Originally from Mulomulo in Nadi, Naidu acknowledged his family, especially his parents Lakesh Naidu and Padma Wati who played an instrumental role in shaping his career.

“They saw the ability in me, and they supported my dreams. Both my parents and my siblings have been my pillar of strength, and it was them who saw that FNU was the best university for me to help me turn my dreams into a reality,” he added.

The new graduate plans to go back to New Zealand and work even harder to fulfil his ultimate dream of having his own garage.

“FNU has prepared me well for my future, and I cannot wait for the day when I will get all that I have dreamt of,” said the former student.

Naidu also stated he would happily recommend the Certificate IV in Automotive Body Works programme to anyone keen to pursue a successful career in this field.

“I am pleased to note that the younger generation is slowly accepting skill-based learning, and I know this will lead to a better future for them. I want to encourage high school students or anyone hesitant about trying their hands on in skill-based education, to take the bold step of starting from somewhere.”

“Do not sit back. Get up and get going. There are plenty of opportunities that you will find along the way.”
