Saimon Shavneel Lal recently graduated for the third time from the Fiji National University (FNU) and is currently pursuing studies to complement his skills, knowledge and experience.

The 25-year-old began his tertiary education at FNU’s College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies (CBHTS) after completing Year 13 at Assemblies of God High School.

In 2019, Lal graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Industrial Relations and Human Resources Management) and enrolled in the Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting the following year.

Despite the learning challenges presented by the first wave of COVID-19 in Fiji last year, Lal was able to complete his studies successfully.

His passion and determination to one day become a chartered accountant resulted in Lal then graduating with a Master of Commerce in Accounting in August this year.

“From high school, I was always in Accounting so I knew that my study and career pathway would be in this field,” he said.

“I’ve had a rewarding student and graduate experience at FNU and for this I am grateful to the lectures and support staff, my family and friends and those who have supported me whilst I have continuously upgraded my qualifications at FNU.”

“In addition to the learning and teaching, other memorable highlights of my time as an FNU student includes those late nights staying up studying, playing soccer in the FNU team and just having fun with friends and participating in student life events and activities.”

Lal has worked as an Attaché at Fiji Ports Terminal Limited and an Internal Stock Auditor at Five Squares. Since then, he was employed in various positions as an Administrator, Acting Institutional Research Coordinator and Institutional Survey Assistant at FNU in the Department of Institutional Research, Planning and International Relations. He was also an Administrator in the Office of the Registrar.

“Hard work definitely pays off and I am working towards my dream career. Now that I have recently graduated, I aim to join an accounting firm and further develop my skills and experience,” Lal said.

“It is a satisfying feeling knowing that I have accomplished my Masters qualification at this age.”

Lal is currently pursuing another Postgraduate Diploma, in Entrepreneurship and Management. Students interested in the same or other courses at FNU can learn more about our programmes by clicking here.
