Head of State commends NTPC for promoting Business Excellence in Fiji

Winner of the 23rd Fiji Business Excellence President’s Award, the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) receiving the award from President of the Republic of the Fiji Islands, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva on 5 November 2022.

 

President of the Republic of the Fiji Islands, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere commended the Fiji National University’s (FNU), National Training & Productivity Centre (NTPC) for its tremendous contributions in promoting business excellence in Fiji for the past two decades.

The Head of State made the statement while officiating as the Chief Guest at the 23rd Fiji Business Excellence Awards (FBEA) held at the Grand Pacific Hotel last Saturday.

“In my humble opinion, this is an important component that needs to gather greater momentum. The National Training and Productivity Centre has been a commendable custodian of the Fiji Business Excellence programme for the past 22 years, as it sets high standards and continuously raises the bar on its criteria and awards.”

“I wish to also commend the work of the Fiji Business Excellence Awards Secretariat under the leadership of the Director of the National Training and Productivity Centre, Dr Isimeli Tagicakiverata and his team for continuing to uphold its national mandate and the Awards vision to “Enhance Productivity and Excellence in Fiji.”

Thirteen organisations received awards at the 23rd Fiji Business Excellence Award in the different categories.

Winner of the Fiji 23rd Business Excellence Awards (FBEA), Achievement in Business Excellence category, Sugar Cane Growers Fund held at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.

It was double victory for the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) as the organisation won the highest honour at the FBEA, the President’s Award, and the first ever Green Sustainability Award.

FCCC Chairperson Isikeli Tikoduadua said this was a significant milestone for FCCC in our quest their quest for quality and organisational performance excellence and an important step in its journey towards Sustainability and Development.

“Our journey in Excellence included receiving the ‘Achievement’ award in 2018 and the ‘Prize Award’ in 2019 with our Quality Circles team also getting awarded in National Quality Conventions,” Tikoduadua said.

“In the future, we will continue to work towards standardisation of processes, being innovative, utilising digitisation, increasing transparency in regulatory processes, and continue to take FCCC to even greater heights and ensure our service delivery towards the Fijians remains paramount.”

FNU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lyn Karstadt said the FBEA awards recipients have developed a habit of excellence.

“The Fiji Business Excellence Awards, formerly called the Fiji Quality Awards, has come a long way from its humble beginnings to the successful awards system that it is today.”

“Tonight’s awards recipients and others like them have developed a habit of excellence. They have evolved business practices and management habits which have resulted in their outstanding performance over time.”

Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service won the Commitment to Business Excellence Award, while four organisations, Hygiene and Sanitization Services (Fiji) Pte Limited, Movements International (Fiji) Pte Ltd, Sugar Cane Growers Fund and Post Fiji Pte Ltd received awards in the Achievement in Business Excellence category.

FNU NTPC Manager Quality Awards, Bob Kolitagane urged the recipients of the awards to share their business excellence journey and learning with other local organisations.

“You are among the best in class in Fiji in terms of business excellence in Fiji, not only that you have become a role model and an ambassador for business excellence. You are also set to be competitive regionally and globally as well.”

“I humbly urge you to share your knowledge and learnings from your journey to the other local organisations so that we can all build a strong foundation together that supports a resilient economy infrastructure and a sustainable and prosperous Fiji.”

Fiji Public Trustee Corporation Pte Limited and Flick Hygiene Pte Ltd scooped awards in the Fiji Business Excellence Prize category.

The FBEA is based on the Malcolm Baldrige Business Excellence framework. To date, 289 awards have been conferred to around 150 organisations.

The list of winners is as follows:

  2. Commitment Awards – Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service
  3. Achievement Awards – Hygiene Sanitisation, Movements International Limited, Sugar Cane Growers Fund and Post Fiji
  4. Fiji Business Excellence Prize Awards – Fiji Public Trustee Corporation Limited and Flick Hygiene Limited
  5. Fiji Business Excellence President Award – Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission
