Graduates from the College of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Sciences were reminded to carry not only intellectual expertise but also compassion, empathy, and a commitment to ethical conduct.
Fiji National University (FNU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba made this statement during the second day of the FNU graduation at the Vodafone Arena today.
A total of 971 graduates graduated, with 227 males, 744 females, and 269 regional and international students.
“Whether you wear the scrubs or wield the stethoscope, your role will always demand empathy, expertise, and unwavering commitment. In the quiet moments when the weight of the day presses upon you, remember this: you are not just a professional; you are a custodian of humanity’s health,” Professor Nabobo-Baba said.
“We believe in shaping a future that celebrates the unique contributions of indigenous languages and cultures, both in Fiji and beyond. As you embark on your professional journey, I hope you too will honor these principles in your work and in your service to humanity.”
Professor Nabobo-Baba applauded the parents for their indispensable role in the graduates’ journeys, providing unwavering support, encouragement, and countless sacrifices.
“Today, you stand alongside the graduates, not as mere spectators but as pillars of strength and beacons of unwavering love.”
Chief Guest, Airports Fiji Limited Chief Executive Officer Mesake Nawari, said the graduation was a testament to the graduates’ resilience and determination.
“As you stand on the threshold of your professional careers, I want to acknowledge the hard work, sacrifice, and passion that has brought you to this moment,” Nawari said.
“As you embark on your careers, I urge you to carry with you the lessons you have learned here at Fiji National University, lessons not just in medicine, health sciences, and nursing, but also in empathy, ethics, and social responsibility. Remember, your work is not only about healing bodies, but also about understanding people, addressing their needs, and ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their background, have access to the care they deserve.”
