From a young age, Priyanka Namrita Sen exhibited an interest in gadgets paving the way for her decision to undertake the Certificate in Engineering (Electronics) (Level 3) offered at the Fiji National University (FNU).

Reflecting on her aspirations, Priyanka expressed her dream of becoming an electronics technician.

“I have always had a knack for gadgets from a young age so I knew my career would have to be around something that involved gadgets,” said Sen.

“I found that this programme was the right one for me to become an electronics technician.”

Sen grew up in Laselase, Sigatoka, and attended Sigatoka Methodist College. The passing of her father and sole breadwinner of the family in 2020 compelled her to drop out of Year 12 studies that year.

She pursued odd jobs after dropping out of school and assisted her mother with running their household.

Despite the challenge, Sen was determined to make her dream a reality.

At the commencement of Semester 1, 2024, Sen sat inside MB Hall at FNU’s Derrick Campus in Samabula attending the College of Engineering and Technical Vocational Education & Training (CETVET) orientation in pursuit of her dreams.

“It is never too late to pursue one’s dreams, irrespective of age or background. Anything is possible if you are willing to do it,” said the 21-year-old.

“It has always been my dream to graduate university and work in the field of electronics and make my mum proud.”

Sen added that she chose FNU for its inclusive programmes and its acceptance of individuals with diverse educational backgrounds.

“I chose FNU because of the programmes it offers and being able to accept cases like mine who may have not succeeded in high school.”
