SUVA,Fiji. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka reminded students from the Fiji National University’s Pacific Centre for Maritime Studies (PCMS) to fully utilise the resources provided to them.
Honourable Rabuka emphasised that the maritime world is awaiting their leadership, creativity, and passion.
He was speaking at the official opening of the new PCMS building today.
Honourable Rabuka said that for too long, the full potential of the maritime industry had not been fully realised in terms of formal education, research, and development.
He added that with the opening of this new building, a significant step is being taken towards addressing this gap.
“This new building is not just a structure; it is a hub of learning, a place where future leaders, experts, and professionals of the maritime sector will be nurtured, trained, and empowered,” Honourable Rabuka said.
“This building will provide FNU students with cutting-edge programmes and courses that reflect the needs of the maritime world, with a focus on sustainability, safety, and the growth of our blue economy.”
He reiterated that this marks a new chapter for both Fiji National University and the nation.
“To the students who will walk through these doors: this is your opportunity to shape the future of the Pacific. Take full advantage of the knowledge, expertise, and experience that will be available to you here. The maritime world is waiting for your leadership, creativity, and passion,” Honourable Rabuka said.
“This new building is not just a gift for today; it is a legacy for tomorrow. Together, we will navigate the future of the Pacific, one student, one innovation, one breakthrough at a time.”
Vice-Chancellor Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba emphasised the need for collaboration for sustainable growth.
“At FNU, we are at an exciting crossroads today. Our focus is on the ocean, which is why we have this new building. This building will not only embody FNU’s vision but also the national vision,” Professor Nabobo-Baba said.
“What we do at FNU directly addresses the needs of our people. We believe in resilience, and we are committed to delivering. Today is a critical step in FNU’s long history. This building will be used to fulfill the promise of decades to come.
“This will be a beacon of opportunity and knowledge. Through collaboration, we will deliver sustainable growth for Fiji and the Pacific.”
