Second-year student at the Fiji National University’s Natabua Campus in Lautoka, Bulou Boteiova is the newly crowned Miss Vodafone Coral Coast Queen 2024.
The 21-year-old was crowned on Saturday at the 2024 Vodafone Coral Coast Carnival.
Boteiova hails from Teci Village in the Yasawa Group and shares maternal links to Marou village in the district of Naviti in Yasawa.
However, she was raised at Uciwai Settlement in Korolevu, Baravi, Nadroga.
The newly crowned Coral Coast Queen is also currently pursuing a Bachelor of Education (Primary).
Although Boteiova had to sit her exams one week before the carnival commenced, she smartly prepared herself to balance out her time.
“I was worried about my exams and also about what to advocate on, but I am indeed grateful and blessed that God works in mysterious ways, giving me the right people to help me throughout the carnival week,” she said.
“I didn’t even see my mum during the carnival week and all I did was leave it in God’s hands to lead and protect me all throughout.”
She said her focus was to advocate more on what she held dearly to her heart.
“I wasn’t there for the crown or to compete, I was there to relay the message to the people of Fiji about the importance of mental health and the upbringing of our youth,” said Boteiova.
She added that her win has now opened many doors for her to advocate more on mental health.
“I wish to work hand in hand with the Fiji Police Force and the Coral Coast Carnival Committee and visit communities, organisations and schools to remind them of the importance of mental health and the upbringing of our youth,” she said.
Boteiova dedicates her win to her mother and her family.
FNU’s College of Humanities and Education Dean, Professor Mesake Dakuidreketi said this was a proud moment for the university.
“On behalf of everyone at the College of Humanities and Education, I would like to congratulate Bulou Boteiova for being crowned Miss Vodafone Coral Coast Queen 2024,” said Professor Dakuidreketi.
“This is a significant milestone. This achievement symbolises the hard work, commitment, resilience, sacrifice, and determination from her.
“This is a time of great joy and celebration for us all. We are so proud.”
Meanwhile, she also scooped the awards for Best Traditional Attire, Best Research Topic, Best Talent, and Best Personality.
