FNU’s Head of Ba Campus, Niraj Dharmendra.

The Fiji National University’s (FNU) Ba Campus is set to host the inaugural Ba Campus Market Day next month.

The event is an initiative by the FNU’s Office of the Vice-Chancellor whilst being organised by the staff of Ba Campus and students who are part of the FNU’s Students’ Association (FNUSA).

All proceeds that will be collected during the market day will go towards supporting students through the charitable heart of FNU – the FNU Foundation.

Head of Campus, Niraj Dharmendra said the initiative was presented by the FNU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba during an official visit to the campus last year and the idea sparked excitement and a commitment with the staff and students who are now in preparation stages.

He shared that the Market Day will showcase projects developed by students from the Fiji National University’s College of Engineering and Technical Vocational Education and Training (CETVET).

Dharmendra added students from the College of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (CAFF) will also participate by selling fresh vegetables, nursery plants, mushrooms, as well as a variety of food items and pastries.

“Students, staff, and business organisations will have the opportunity to sell a variety of products during the event by bringing items they wish to showcase and market on campus,” said Dharmendra.

“It is an event open to all students, staff, and the general public.”

He said the idea of hosting the Market Day twice each year was still in its planning stages.

Professor Nabobo-Baba shared that the initiative was not only about agriculture and sustainability, but also about giving back to students of FNU and supporting the future of education.

The Ba Campus Market Day is set to take place on Friday, 31 July from 9.00am to 4.00pm.
