Press Release Posted On: April 10, 2024

With a commitment to supporting current and future students who may face financial barriers, the upcoming inaugural Fiji National University Alumni Ball aims to raise funds for scholarships and other financial assistance schemes.

The Fiji National University boasts one of the largest Alumni networks in the Pacific Region with graduates dating back to the 1800’s.

The first-ever FNU Alumni Ball hopes to be able to serve as a fundraising event to support scholarships, programmes, and initiatives benefiting current and future students of the institution.

FNU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba has encouraged former students to come out in numbers and support such a worthy cause.

“I would like to extend a warm invitation to all our members of our proud FNU family and our esteemed graduates to be part of this historic event that promises an evening of nostalgia, celebration, and philanthropy, bringing together alumni, family, and friends from across the institution’s esteemed history,” remarked Professor Nabobo-Baba.

“We need to come together to celebrate our shared heritage and most importantly, contribute to the advancement of education in Fiji.”

Professor Nabobo-Baba added that as the premier educational institution in Fiji, FNU takes pride in its rich legacy of nurturing talent, fostering excellence, and shaping futures.

“The Alumni Ball serves as a momentous occasion to honour this legacy while also championing the future success of current and prospective students.”

Alumni Relations Consultant, Fotagkauriro Aisea said the event will be a fantastic opportunity for FNU graduates to connect with the university and other colleagues.

“This event isn’t just about commemorating our achievements – it’s a golden opportunity for all alumni to forge new connections and stay updated on the incredible partnerships our university has cultivated,” said Aisea.

“The Alumni can discover firsthand the exciting collaborations we’ve established with organisations like Burger King, Janty Bondwell, Central Rental, and Health Plus Diagnostics through our Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs). They can also learn about the exclusive benefits and opportunities these partnerships bring to our alumni community.”

Beyond its fundraising objectives, the Alumni Ball offers numerous benefits to attendees. It provides a platform for networking, reconnecting with former classmates and colleagues, and forging new connections within the expansive FNU community. It also offers an opportunity to showcase the remarkable achievements of FNU alumni across various fields and industries, inspiring current students to aspire towards greatness.

All FNU and former institute graduates, along with their families and friends, are cordially invited to purchase tickets. This includes alumni from the former Fiji College of Advanced Education (FCAE), Fiji College of Agriculture (FCA), Fiji Institute of Technology (FIT), Fiji School of Medicine (FSM), Fiji School of Nursing (FSN), Lautoka Teachers College (LTC), and the Training & Productivity Authority of Fiji (TPAF).

The inaugural FNU Alumni Ball is set to take place on Thursday, April 18th, at the Vodafone Arena. Interested participants are encouraged to contact the FNU Alumni Relations Consultant for ticket purchases at alumni@fnu.ac.fj or call 8007601.
