Student leaders play a crucial role in shaping the educational environment and representing the interests and concerns of their fellow students. They can positively inspire, lead and mentor other students.
This was highlighted by the Fiji National University (FNU), Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba during the FNU Student Associations’ (FNUSA) first Council meeting at Nasinu Campus this month.
“As leaders, you are the bridge between students and the University staff and leadership team. You are tasked with facilitating effective communication and dialogue and engage in platforms where you can express students’ ideas, suggestions, and grievances. At FNU, we think of you as Fiji’s new crop of leaders of villages, towns, companies, universities, and the country.”
“You will influence and inspire others to get positive outcomes. FNU remains committed to placing students at the centre of everything we do. Your roles as leaders will allow us to achieve this and continue to enhance the student experience at the University.”
“You also serve as positive role models for your fellow students and inspire others to take on leadership roles, develop essential skills, and make a positive impact within the FNU community. Your actions and behaviours can also influence the overall University culture.”
FNUSA National President, Mohammed Iqbal, said the workshop was conducted to familiarise the student leaders with the University’s policies, processes and strategic vision.
“This was a transition and Council meeting with all Branch Presidents attending. For the first time, Vice-Presidents and other FNUSA representatives were also invited,” he said.
“The student leaders provided an overview of the various student-led activities we have conducted over the last few months and the exciting plans we have for future events.”
“As the voice of our students, the Association will continue to work with the University in providing an engaging, exciting and enriching student journey at FNU.”
